Scarf This Way: Kate Bosworth

The (fashion) world - and I - are crazy about scarves at this moment. From fancy runway versions (Balenciaga) to traditional ones (Palestinian checkered head-scarf/keffiyeh), they're all over everyone this season - and I do hope they stay for (very) long!

I came across this picture of Kate Bosworth and was smitten in an instant.

The way she combines the patterns is just so chic. Ethnic patterned dress plus ethnic patterned scarf? For some people, if you do it wrong, you'll end up looking over-dressed or even gaudy. But Kate managed to pull the look - fabulously.

The key is to pick subtle colors in general, with a bit of bright colors to highlight the look (Kate's whole look is dominated by black and grey, with a touch of red, blue, and gold). And minimize accessories (she's only wearing a Vacheron Constantin watch) so you won't look like a tree ornament.

And her choice to use boots instead of sandals or heels really twisted up the look and made it score an A++.
